Star Wars X-Wing Recreation

This was done for a school project that was broken up into three parts: Vehicle modeling, texturing, and lighting/rendering/composition. It was a six-week project in total. I chose to build a T65-B X-Wing Starfighter from Star Wars, and set it up in the Death Star trench. Modeling was done in Maya; texturing was done in Substance Painter using a UDIM workflow; Rendered with V-Ray,

Final composition, utilizing render element passes like z-depth, and object IDs. I also painted in the background part of the trench, as well as added blaster bolts, and Luke Skywalker in the cockpit.

This is the raw render, with no post effects. I set keyframes on the trench to move it back in one frame to give it some motion blur that felt real. Reminds me of ILM's "go-motion" techniques.

Built the trench using MASH; Modeling multiple panel variants, and laying them along the vertices of a plane.

The trench. I also gave it a tapered end to give it a termination point, so the perspective makes it look like it goes on for much longer than it does.

Modeled some low-poly TIE Fighters to go in the background of the shot.

Here are some renders of the X-Wing in a sterile turntable environment.

Utilized seven 4K texture sets at 5.12px/cm, across 5 UDIM tiles.

The texture-work/paint-job is based on Luke Skywalker's X-Wing "Red 5," signified by the segmented red line, the gold paint trim, and the blue stripes along the blasters.

Five red stripes on each wing for the call sign "Red 5."

Notice the wings aren't entirely symmetrical. The wings interlock at the engines differently on each side.
